The village has about 300 residents who are engaged in various professions.
In the summer, many expatriates return to their place and the village is full of life, the streets are filled with children who enjoy the freedom and safety that the place offers.
In the evenings the adults meet in the traditional village cafe and spend their time there.
Residents
Initially, the residents focused on agriculture. However, many also took to the sea, following the deeply rooted pirate mentality of the wider Ermionida region.
In the past, fieldwork was done manually: plowing, sowing, harvesting, and watering the gardens. Later, machinery and engines made cultivation and harvesting much easier.
Scattered among the residents' fields are fig trees, prickly pears, and almond trees, which beautify the landscape when they bloom in February. These products are mainly used for household needs.
Another agricultural activity, now almost disappeared, is the exploitation of pine trees, documented since the 3rd millennium BC. Pine was used in shipbuilding, dyeing nets, and processing resin. Some resin workers settled in the village with their families in earlier years.
The residents actively participated in the nation's struggles and defense. In 1821, along with others from the province, they formed a military unit led by Paparsenis Krestas and participated in the siege of Nafplio and the Battle of Dervenakia. They also reinforced the military unit of G. Karaiskakis to help the besieged Acropolis and generally supported the struggle for independence with money and donations.
Around 1890, a crisis and high unemployment led to a strong wave of emigration to America.
During World War II, several residents of Fourni participated in the battles in Pindos and later, during the German occupation, were active in resistance operations.
In the difficult years of the occupation, local productions proved invaluable for feeding the inhabitants. Olive oil, especially, became a valuable commodity, often taking the place of currency.
Nowadays, the residents are active in various fields; you can see a small business directory of the village here
Olive trees have always been, and still are, the main crop of the residents, who take great pride in the excellent quality olive oil they produce. Almost every house produces its own olive oil.
It is worth noting that in the residents' fields, there are ancient olive trees (over 400 years old) that still bear fruit and produce oil.
